This song is called "Somebody that I used to know" sung by THE ENVY. The original song was written by an Australian-Belgian singer, Gotye, who also performed it in 2011. The dynamics of this song are basically soft and relaxed. However, as the song goes on, it suddenly turns into a tense part. Differ from the beginning, the middle part can easily get the audience's attention due to the singer's heightened voice. At first, the singer uses a flat, plain, and husky tone to demonstrate the song which nicely matches the lyrics. ( The lyrics are talking about a guy who feels lonely and desperate without his girl beside him.) Later on, the music reaches its climax with a "popping" high voice. Unfortunately, this group didn't do a full version of this song so it's the only fly in the ointment. The instrumentation is based on five guitars and a male voice. The guitars accompany one another quite well. I thought the guitars' part is a bit too loud. I could barely hear the guy singing. Instead of 5 people playing 1 guitar, they did 1 person playing 5 guitars and I thought it was really creative and attractive.
I really enjoyed this song. In fact, I had seen the version of "walk of the earth" cover before Ms. Huskins showed it to us, so I was so excited when you actually showed the same one! To be honest, I liked the walk of the earth better because they had three people singing which made the song more "colourful". By contrast, this version seemed to be slightly thin and weak. This one is funnier though. ( Especially the water part. How could that guy keep his face so serious?)
Overall, this group has done a nice job and I liked it.
Somebody That I Used To Know
Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it's an ache I still remember
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end, always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I'll admit that I was glad that it was over
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and now we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and I feel so rough
No you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
Now you're just somebody that I used to know
[Kimbra:]
Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I'd done
But I don't wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know
[Gotye:]
But you didn't have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened and now we were nothing
And I don't even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger and I feel so rough
And you didn't have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records and then change your number
I guess that I don't need that though
Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Somebody
(I used to know)
Somebody
(Now you're just somebody that I used to know)

(That I used to know)
(I used to know)
