Greensleeves
"Greensleeves" is a traditional English folk song and tune, a ground either of the form called a romanesca or of its slight variant, the passamezzo antico. There is a persistent belief that Greensleeves was composed by Henry VIII for his lover and future queen consort Anne Boleyn. Boleyn allegedly rejected King Henry's attempts to seduce her and this rejection may be referred to in the song when the writer's love "cast me off discourteously". However, Henry did not compose "Greensleeves", which is probably Elizabethan in origin and is based on an Italian style of composition that did not reach England until after his death. Personally, I really like the melody of the song. The melody is calm, smooth, and peaceful. Because it was a love song for Henry VIII's lover, it has some romantic element consisted. The tempo tends to be slow but moderate. The melody and the tempo are the best combination of the song. It can gradually ease the audience mind and give us comfort. Even though it is a calm song, it still has some dynamics. The beginning is soft and gentle. And as the song goes on, the "twang" sounds followed by the pleasant melody create a beautiful folk song. The reason I chose this song is because I really like the sounds that the guitar creates. It is simple but it is also pure and delicate.
